State of Mexico, Edomex – José Humbertus Pérez Espinosa, leader of the Mexiquense Front for Decent Housing, has denounced that the root of the real estate cartel problem in Mexico lies not only in the past administrations of former presidents Vicente Fox, Felipe Calderón, and Enrique Peña Nieto, but also in a corrupt system that originated in Mexico City and the State of Mexico. Pérez Espinosa maintains that the modification of housing finance schemes by Arturo Montiel, following his electoral defeat, has led to a devastating mortgage crisis.
Since the creation of the Federal Mortgage Society under Vicente Fox’s presidency, billions of pesos have been allocated to finance projects that have benefited a select few, while many citizens have been left without housing options. “The struggles of the middle class and those who have suffered reprisals from the powerful are being ignored,” says Pérez Espinosa, who also criticizes the lack of recognition for those who have denounced irregularities in the sector.

José Humbertus Pérez Espinoza Accuses Corruption in the Real Estate Sector
The community leader denounces that academic studies and reports on the crisis omit his criminal complaint filed in 2011 with the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), now the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR), against various individuals involved in the real estate cartel. He mentions prominent figures such as Federico Gómez Montt and Luis Orbañanos, who have been implicated in corruption within the sector.
Furthermore, he emphasizes the importance of not forgetting the victims of this system. “We cannot forget those who have lost their homes. Our fight must be for justice and for the recognition of all those affected,” Pérez Espinosa stated.
Finally, the former prisoner of conscience maintains that the history of the real estate cartel is complex and needs an honest review that includes the voices of those who have truly suffered the consequences of corruption in the sector.
