Ecatepec, Mexico— Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss announced at a press conference that during the first year and eight months of her administration, high-impact crimes have decreased by an average of 42 percent, with approximately 2,000 fewer offenses, according to figures presented by the municipal government.
Cisneros Coss attributed the decrease to the territorial implementation of the National Security Strategy, as well as to coordination among authorities at all three levels of government and the strengthening of security measures in communities.
The mayor reported that 20,000 neighborhood cameras and alarms have been installed in the municipality, in addition to the formation of 10,000 Peace Committees. She also noted that more than 8,000 Community Peace Roundtables have been held, in which authorities and police commanders meet with residents to address problems and risk situations.
What is the Unified Command Coordination for the Eastern Zone?
Ecatepec is part of the Unified Command Coordination for the Eastern Zone, a system that, according to the municipality, holds regular meetings with municipal authorities to evaluate results and define security strategies.
Cisneros Coss also highlighted the support of the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, with which, he said, coordination meetings are held. As part of these efforts, the municipality reported the training of 1,568 municipal police officers.
For his part, the Commissioner of Citizen Security and Municipal Transit, Luis Alberto Taylor González, presented a comparison of crime rates recorded from January to July 2024 versus the same period in 2026.
During that period, residential burglary decreased by 60 percent; extortion, by 47 percent; intentional homicide, by 46.2 percent; cargo theft, by 42.3 percent; and vehicle theft, by 42.2 percent. Theft on public transportation accounted for 42 percent, and robbery of pedestrians for 35.7 percent.
These figures were presented by municipal authorities during a press conference and correspond to the periods and comparisons indicated.
