The head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Corruption, Benjamín Vargas Salazar, reported that 50 former public officials from the state of Querétaro were formally charged in the last year, primarily for crimes such as bribery, embezzlement, and abuse of public office. He specified that those implicated include former officials who held high-ranking positions.

The prosecutor explained that the penalties for those convicted include sentences of up to five years in prison, in addition to disqualification from holding any public office for the same period. He noted that these actions are part of the efforts to strengthen the fight against corruption in the state.

Vargas Salazar also indicated that the Prosecutor’s Office currently has approximately 400 open investigations related to alleged acts of corruption. He clarified that, to date, there are no complaints related to the Paseo 5 de Febrero project.
